Abstract

Mitochondria are essential organelles that not only generate ATP to power cellular activities, but also play roles in apoptotic cell death, autophagy, stem cell differentiation and immune response regulation. Although mitochondria were once considered static and isolated organelles, accumulating evidence indicates that they are highly dynamic, continually altering their morphology. Mitochondrial dynamics are primarily regulated by fission and fusion, and here we focus specifically on DRP1 complexes in mitochondrial fission.
