Technology innovation as a driving force across biochemistry

Angus Lamond, Hong Zhang

Abstract

In the fifth installment of our ‘Trends at 50 - Perspectives from the Advisory Board’ series, board members Angus Lamond and Hong Zhang reflect on biochemistry’s evolution over the past 50 years, from X-ray crystallography to mass spectrometry and sequencing, and to today’s artificial intelligence (AI)-driven applications and insights. They also share personal journeys in their careers, comment on the enduring value of reviews and access to data, and describe a future where new methods and interconnected fields collaborate to propel biochemistry into the next half-century. Their stories illustrate how innovation continually redefines what’s possible.
